When you talk to our engineering team, one thing becomes clear straight away – they love what they do. Thoughtful, curious and collaborative, they’re the people behind the technology that keeps our platform running and evolving.

To find out what makes this team tick, our Head of Marketing, Nicky Valind sat down with Nick Bogaerts, who’s been with the company for more than six years, and George Wilson and Jack Mills, who both joined last year. Between them, they paint a picture of a team that’s passionate about problem-solving, united by trust and excited about the future of open banking and open finance.

Joining the team: from nerves to momentum

George: “When I first joined, I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. The team was full of experienced developers and I wondered if I’d be able to keep up. But those nerves disappeared fast; everyone was so patient and supportive. Even now, I’m learning from them every day.”

Jack: “I thought the company occupied an exciting space – quite a unique corner of tech. The problems we solve are more complex than I expected, but that’s been a great challenge. I’ve really enjoyed digging into the details.”

Nick, who’s seen the company evolve over several chapters, nods in agreement. “Both the technology and the market have changed dramatically. We’ve gone from running a single SaaS product aimed at Europe to delivering global solutions. But what’s stayed constant are our core values: collegiality, shared accountability and a no-blame culture. That consistency is what’s made the company a great place to work.”

Teamwork that fuels innovation

So what makes this particular team work so well together?

George: “It’s our respect for each other’s opinions. No one’s afraid to ask questions or admit when they’re unsure and that creates real collaboration.”

Jack: “Everyone’s happy to help. You never feel like you’re on your own. It’s a genuinely supportive environment.”

Nick: “Our processes are built for adaptability, purpose and shared ownership. Through pairing sessions and regular knowledge-sharing, we foster continuous learning and growth. The mix of experience levels adds another layer of strength. It’s essential. Newer engineers bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm; those who’ve been around longer bring domain knowledge and help the team avoid common pitfalls.”

George: “Exactly. It’s given me a chance to learn from people who’ve worked across different industries and with different tools. It’s made me more disciplined and open-minded.”

The open banking evolution

If there’s one thing that unites them, it’s excitement about where the industry is heading.

Nick: “There’s a huge amount of momentum. Open banking is only the beginning; it’s the foundation for something much larger. What we’re building now could become the seed of an open finance ecosystem that truly puts people in control of their financial data. That’s exciting to be part of.”

Jack: “It’s an evolving and growing area with so many intricate, interesting challenges to solve.”

George: “And knowing that our work contributes directly to shaping that future makes it even more rewarding.”

A day in the engine room

George: “Most days I’m implementing new features for our directory services platforms or reviewing other engineers’ work. We also have daily standups and social catch-ups to keep everyone connected.”

Jack: “I’m often building new features or exploring new technologies. We’re encouraged to experiment and bring new ideas back to the team.”

Nick: “That’s what I love – experimentation is built into how we work. We even have bi-weekly R&D afternoons for personal development, where engineers can learn and test out new concepts. That curiosity is what keeps us sharp.”

Reflections and what’s next

Jack: “My proudest moment was realising that I can now contribute meaningfully, not just by solving issues, but by shaping discussions and ideas.”

George: “I’m proud that I’ve become a core part of the team. I can jump into conversations and help others confidently.”

Nick: “I’m proud of the team as a whole. They’ve built an environment that’s open, innovative and genuinely supportive.”

When asked to sum up the team in three words, they offer:

  • George: Passionate, supportive, skilled
  • Jack: Experienced, kind, dependable
  • Nick: Fearless, adaptive, committed

As for what’s next?

Nick:  “The open banking landscape is expanding rapidly and we’re ready for it.”

George: “With the people we have, we can take on whatever comes next.”

Jack: “There are so many opportunities as more countries embrace open banking; it’s going to be a fascinating journey.”

From single products to global platforms, from nervous first days to confident collaboration, the engineers in our ‘engine room’ are driving innovation in one of the most exciting spaces in tech.
